Recovery Peer Support Groups
We’re gauging interest in virtual group meet-ups for individuals who suffer from ME/CFS, Long Covid, POTs and Fibromyalgia with a recovery-focused mindset.
What is the concept?
Community/peer support groups
Potentially, starting off with combined ME/CFS, Fibro, long-covid and POTs group as they often are comorbid or relate. Other illnesses can be considered if there is a demand and alternate groups can be set up. Feedback on this needed and wanted.
The format will be shaped based on feedback from interested participants
The groups will include people who have experienced recovery, providing a space to share insights and support
Aiming to offer a space for individuals to process traumas and grief as part of their recovery journey
These groups will likely focus on:
Sharing experiences
Offering support
Signposting resources
Creating a space for people to share their stories and vent
The structure and facilitation will evolve based on group needs, and may not involve professional facilitators in the early stages
Why is this different?
We understand that some existing support groups, such as those run by ME Awareness, may unintentionally reinforce the idea that recovery isn’t possible.
Our aim is to create groups that are fully recovery-minded, focusing on hope, progress, and growth.
Additional details:
International group: Time zones will be considered to accommodate participants from all over the world.
Monthly meetings: The groups are expected to meet monthly, but the exact timing and frequency will be shaped by feedback.
Next steps:
At this stage, we are simply gathering interest and feedback to understand what participants would like from these groups.
