WHY WE EXIST

  • Many online resources connect people who are still suffering from illnesses, who often feel stuck. But we envisioned a space that inspired a feeling of limitless potential, opportunity and optimism in a community rarely faced with that.

We felt alienated from many long-term illness communities that focused on traditional pathways and partial recovery, and noticed that survivors had (understandably) resumed their normal lives without leaving any hints behind.

We wanted to learn the attitude and techniques that helped them heal, without any financial cost.

    • A supportive, positive, pioneering community

    • Passing on as many recovery tools as we can

    • For free

  • Recovery, and what it means to you, is personal.

Recovery for some can mean being able to function and carry out the basics.

It can mean being able to socialise, go to work and spend quality time with your family.

For others it can mean 100% recovery and getting back to the life they lost.

Whatever it is, we hope we can help you go on this journey with as much support, compassion and information as possible.

  • Adopting a recovery mindset should not necessarily entail overexertion and setback.

Rather, it could mean better learning to treat yourself with compassion, and being more aware of the ways in which you use up energy.

It could mean turning everything you thought you knew on its head, and starting again from the ground up with more self-care.

It could also mean being more open-minded to techniques that you had previously written off.

However, quite naturally, there will be setbacks along the way. That’s okay. We learnt to pick ourselves up and keep moving forwards. We must be compassionate with ourselves during these setbacks, and care for ourselves. Energy is wasted in being angry at our bodies. It’s better to celebrate the wins.

  • Recovery is a journey, and for some it can be life-long. You aren’t failing if you are still sick. You are on a journey to recovery.

To continuously aim for ‘full-recovery’ can be exhausting in itself. It can also be a continuation of the attitudes that got us sick in the first place.

One of our aims at Recovered is to be sure that we don’t put too much pressure on ourselves to do this perfectly

  • We are people who have overcome long-term illnesses, and we wanted to share our story in case it inspired others. As a community, we are supportive, kind, optimistic and friendly to everyone who wishes to or has healed. If we fail to meet your expectations, please tell us.

Our only request is that you keep an open mind about recovery. This is not a place for pessimism.

  • We are a global community. We can gain a lot from diverse perspectives, lifestyles, foods, views, medical systems and networks of care.
