Introduction
My world had crumbled. Shingles and chronic fatigue had stolen my energy, leaving me a shadow of my former self. But I refused to be a victim. This is my story of emerging from the darkness of ME/CFS and finding my way back to life. Keep in mind that my journey is unique, and your path to recovery may differ.
Growing up, I experienced a challenging environment. I attended a rough comprehensive school where violence was a constant threat. I felt the need to make myself invisible, and the resulting hypervigilance and fear lingered, shaping my perspective. I didn't realise that these early experiences would later intertwine with other stressors, ultimately contributing to my health struggles.
Years later, as an adult, I developed shingles after a relationship breakup. This marked the beginning of my decade-long journey into the unknown world of ME/CFS. I battled an invisible enemy that sapped my energy and left me struggling with simple, everyday tasks.
Recovery
In the midst of my confusion and exhaustion, I started searching for answers. I encountered a myriad of opinions and theories, some of which were misleading or overly simplistic. However, I refused to give up. I devoured resources from therapists and mentors who understood the complex nature of ME/CFS. This guided me towards self-discovery.
